This was such a lovely piece to illustrate. I live nearby the ocean and often go there for inspiration or relaxation, so maybe you can guess where I found the inspiration this time? 🙂
Children’s Books Ireland is the national charity and arts organisation that champions
every child’s right to develop a love of reading. They have vast knowledge about all things childrens books. When I first sketched up the concept – I was thinking that they have the key to unlock not only children’s love for reading but also to the treasure chest full of the Best Irish Books of 2025. Then there is of course a book for everyone, so I drew many different characters.
“The Children’s Books Ireland annual reading guide is here! The Best Irish Books of 2025 is a celebration of Irish authors and illustrators, published this year. It contains reviews of 100 books suitable for readers aged 0–18 years. From debuts to our Laureates na nÓg, it is a treasure trove of talent from the island of Ireland. The guide is a showcase of some of Ireland’s best and brightest across fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and verse, with all books included having been written or illustrated by an Irish born or Irish based artist.“
