13 June 2020. Welcome to Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of free creativity for children and young people.
This reading was created to make the book available for all children Ireland during the National Day of Creativity for Children – Cruinniú na nÓg 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Together with Sligo Central Library, I’m holding an ocean-themed illustration workshop at 14pm, join in for some tricks and ideas on how to illustrate ocean-inspired creatures! We will take inspiration from the book Murphy the Seal.
“Murphy is a happy seal pup living in the wild Atlantic Ocean. One day he’s out swimming with his sister and hurts his eye in a storm. When he wakes up he is an animal hospital. Will Murphy get back to his family in the wild Atlantic Ocean?”
This book is inspired by a real seal rescue and seal release of a seal pup in the village of Strandhill in County Sligo, Ireland when a rehabilitated seal pup was reintroduced back in the Atlantic Ocean.
This is my artwork Gardening for the Exquisite Portraits Exhibition. For the Illustrators Ireland 2020 / 2021 group exhibition, despite covid, over 40 illustrators and authors teamed up and created a giant exhibition. It is now showcasing at the Lab Gallery in Dublin.
During the lockdown many artists faced being without material as travel restrictions was in place. In addition, Many artists was forced to use whatever materials they had available. To create the giant sized artwork I had to do extra coats of acrylics onto thin Christmas wrapping paper.
